of Linux...

"omG! you use linux? u be geek!"

*sigh*

common perception back home, isnt it? well, atleast for me it is. its not like i hate linux or anything but hey, i dont like it much either. this is like a bangladesh-zimbabwe cricket match to an indian cricket fan. even when theres nothing to do, the last thing he will do is waste time watching this. there are many things that ppl have opinions abt. loads of things they care abt. and then theres things they couldnt give a rat's badly nibbled posterior abt...

Encounters of the OS kind ...
the first time i saw linux... that would be somewhere near home, at one of my friends place. he used to go on raving abt it. and ppl consider him a geek. an idiot, yes, but a geek. (me? hey i just said hes a "friend" didnt i?). it was Redhat, if i remember right. i wasnt really impressed. upto then, the only thoughts i had on other OS were all of "duh...". like i said, i couldnt care less abt it. and then, one fine day, i decide to enroll myself in the *ahem* INTERNATIONAL Institute of Information Technology (much to the anger of the poor masses *sniff*). on my first few days, i got along pretty decent for all my minimal needs with lab1. yes, the very same ancient lab1 where we used to have c-prog labs. seems a ling time ago, doesnt it? whatever... so then, after abt 3 days of rotting in lab1, i decided to take the step up, take the risk and enter lab2...

Lab 2
i had been terrified by the few reports that i had been given abt the notorious lab2. now, in retrospect, i guess i was just way too paranoid.there were terrifying reports from those brave few who had the guts (or the lack of brains) to venture into lab2 on their first day here (i later found out, some of those foolhardy ppl included supreeth and smiley!). but what the hell? how bad could it be? so, for once, careful me decided to put my time (and honour and life!) on the line to get access to some decent computing power. surprising isnt it, but for every 9 of those ppl who had been interacted with in lab2, there was always one of me - unscathed from the ordeal. and then, i behold for the second time in my life - LINUX

Linux
so what if it wasnt windows? well, it had that start button didnt it? that thing which looked like a little red hat? and there was a mouse wasnt there? it looked kinda simple, didnt it? but something was just not right. i was too uncomfortable using it. even now, sometimes, i am. no, i aint scared (scared of an OS??! HOLY!!), i dont detest it. it just doesnt feel right. why should i waste my time installing drivers from somewhere else, when i had them all in windows? why
should i waste so much time selecting stuff when all i need is an OS? that too an OS where i had to open a terminal and type stuff to get somewhere. and me being in ECD, i dont really care abt tinkering with linux, i just need an OS. one which can run simulations (one day before assignment submissions), run games without conflicts (the MAJOR purpose, ie), with which i dont need to mount stuff everytime i need to do something (me hate the process!), one for which i dont need to scour the net just for drivers. is this an anti-linux rhetoric? naah... its just one of those innumerable things i dont care abt. windows.. linux... linspire... what much of a difference does it make? does it wotk? sure, bring it on... i can live with that...

I hate my rhymes
(But I hate everyone else’s more)
I’m riding on the back of this pressure
Guessing that it’s better
I cant keep myself together
Because all of this stress

of a fodu lunch! (part 1)

ok, so i may not be a core food-aholic, so what? i love eating, especially if the foods a lot better than the mess food.

The Invitation...
so there was a mail to students i think (or was it ug2) announcing that all dual degree students had a lunch with all the faculty (or so it said). my first reaction was, as expected "get outta here, eatin mess food is bad enough, eating it in front of faculty?? like, i'm supposed in sevent heaven or what?" unfortunately, food is food, and a lunch with the faculty is, well, a lunch with the faculty. so, there i was, in the EW class, stomach growling, me grumblin as always abt how the no of flies in the room had increased from 15 to 16 in one year, how the rooms are 0.1% more dirtier than they were yesterday, how plain-pure-depreciation will get me broke in 5,891.981 years. you get the point, super-bored, torturing anything with 2 legs, and which walked. or sat. preferably one which could not hit me.

My next move...
*shrugs* hey, what could i do? all dual-degree ppl were "expected", so being a law-abiding citizen, i "plough my weary way" there. (Thaenk Ju, Mrs Marathe). so, there like, TWO ppl there, waiting there at 12:37 (im including myself). and the meeting was at 12:30. this is just too typical of IIIT, isnt it? whatever. so after i made sure (a few 100 times) that the other guy was in CSD, we wait kinda impatiently for more ppl to come. so, more ppl come, and we make our move.

Grand Entrance, Enter stage Left... or was that right?
so, at around 12:50, the director started talkin to us, ah.. more lecuring than talkin, initially. so, then we were all made to say out loud, our "objectives and goals" *snigger, snigger* im betting, most of the ppl made theirs up. well, atleast i did. to some extent. like .... 90%? ok, so after that, the MAIN COURSE!!

The Best Part of the Afternoon...
like they say, and the rest was history. that was the best lunch i had had in a fortnight. the last time being Fishland, some obscure eatery, i hate fish :`(. ok, and there was the unmistakable STENCH of chicken. tandoori or something, i was too busy holding my breath to read the little note beside it. oh, and the paneer was real good. so were the sweets. we're gonna have this EACH AND EVERY WEEK!! TAKE THAT, WORTHLESS NON-DUAL-DEGREE PPL...

Back to the Future...
so, another one coming up this saturday, hope the lunch is atleast as good :)). oh, and the only problem is that i'll have to put up with some research group, who plan to give a presentation abt .. something. whatever. cant i make this small a sacrifice for FOOD??!

The soul's escaping, through this hole that it's gaping
This world is mine for the taking
Make me king, as we move toward a, new world order
A normal life is borin, but superstardom's close to post mortem
It only grows harder, only grows hotter
He blows us all over these hoes is all on him
Coast to coast shows, he's know as the globetrotter
Lonely roads, God only knows

of the Rains...

ok, so after a long break, bloggers are back in action!! oh, well, atleast its better than "katrina"... i mean the hurricane-thingy. yes? NO??! dont know? dont care??

The friggin Rains!
i dont get it. frankly. i just dont get it. whats all this fuss abt the first rains? when the first rain-drops to make touchdown, well.. make touchdown, ppl go ooh-ing and aah-ing. a few sample statements -->
"Oh my FRIGGIN god, this smell is like... totally awesome, d00d!"
"holy fcuk! dont you just love this smell? if i ever go to paradise, pls god, oh, pls god, i wanna smell this there!!"
"did you know, scientists havent been able to create and sustain this scent in a perfume bottle? isnt that a wonder of nature?"

More conversations
oh, hey, which reminds me, one of my friends (back home) actually said-->
"oh, man! awesome! isnt this life? watchin the rain pour as you sit inside drinkin some hot chocolate? aah! heaven.*sigh* *slurp, slurp*"
(note-> the slurp was the hot chocolate)
me was : "u call this a life? get one, man! no, me dont got a life either, atleast i dont like the RAINS! *pfft*"
(note to god-> elisha cuthbert pease god? pretty PLEASE?)

i couldnt give a damn less abt this than i do abt a praire dog which has just been crushed by a bus, and has its brains all fallin out, you know, replete with cz-style muzik, the "plop" sound you hear when someone gets a headshot on you, and ur brains start to fall out? right? and you got 1 health left? get it? NO!! damn, u==dumb.

Down memory lane... whatever that is
you know, this kinda reminds of some REAL-far off relative. my mom's cousins-something-something. of course, the only reason i remember him was because he taught me to wiggle my ears. *wiggle wiggle* so, this guy used to go on and on abt how wonderful the rains were. whenever he used to start off (i was some 7-8 yrs old then), my std responses were->
"are all adults so friggin dumb? holy fcuk! what a life!" of course, fcuk wasnt what i was thinkin..
"yaay! rains! i'd be more happy if i lost my 5-star.*spit*"
*waah* (some1 grabbed a candy from me)" i want my mommy!! and a candy! maybe two! or more! PLEASE??"
"why is it always ME who has to take care of this dumb-cousin-loser-whatever guy? im done babysittin him"

but then we all have our own take on ideal weather. BUT WHATEVER YOURS IS, YOU CAN FRIGGIN WELL KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. that was to the guy on the street (on my way to a haircut) who wanted it to rain, just cos he loved it... b******!

speakin of "ideal" weather, surprisingly, i consider rain to be ideal, only if it was real windy, and i didnt have an umbrella or a jerkin, and the rain was more drizzle-like and less torrential-rain-like. oh, and it should be after midnight. and most importantly, elisha cuthbert must be nearby, preferably in the radius of ... 1 metre? (pls god??).

Too much for me to wanna
Stay in one spot, another day of monotony
Has gotten me to the point, I'm like a snail
I've got to formulate a plot fore I end up in jail or shot
